Hi Stephen,
Very interesting post and story, I’m not sure about whether I have the so called strong sex drive etc… and the making love to the Mrs..lol - I think I scare young females off or summat with my ugly face.
But anyway, yes I think you highlighted some very key important point about the perseverance and that we must be prepared in missing a few nights, weeks or even months of sleep in order to get the job done until it’s finished.
I know it sometimes pays off too, as when I was at university, me and my best friend (plus the face that we were the only 2 guys on the course), whenever we have group projects and we had like 6 of each year spread over 24 weeks, we would slave our ways from 9am in the morning to early 1 or 2 am the next day, just figuring how to solve the design and engineering brief, implementing on cad software and resolving the problems that arised of which there were many, prototyping them and ensuring the engineering issues were ironed. Not to mention the humongous amount of research, devlopment and paper.
We didn’t do it on a one off occasion either, we did it continuously for 3 years, for every single project not to mention we also had our own individual projects too. But, looking back on graduation day,we both chuckled to each other and realized that: we set out what we wanted to achieve and through each others support, determination, perseverance and hard work and effort, we achieved our goals and more, albeit other students on a similar course hated us, but it was worth it.
So Stephen, your absolutely right about the persevering until the impossible has been overcome.
But, then one has to query whether what I did i.e. crazily doing prior to his week, i.e 18- 20hrs each day, 5 days week, not including I have to help out on weekends at my parents shop for 7 hours on friday/saturday, is worth it or not.
And so, you need to start to re-assess again what your primarily focus, goals and vision are. If you have them, and you know where your going and you see that that the effort you put it in, is worth it - then by all means continue. I hope I’m not promoting negativity here but for those who are just thinking that if your passionate about something you will succeed, the I personally think you are also missing something and that is faith and belief.
That’s right, yes you will need passion, but equally, you must also have faith in what you do, and most importantly, belief in that, what your doing is correct for you.
Oh and there is one more thing and that is, don’t be as crazy as me where I was putting in 18-20 hours a day, that’s unless, you want to work yourself to an early grave. Remember Alex’s rule “Work smart, not hard”
The reason? You can work your socks off and have all the money you want in the world, but what’s the point when you have no health or time to enjoy it?
Sorry if I digressed completely off the topics
All the best
Nigel
