Increase On-line Traffic: If you’re thinking about using Twitter to build relationships you need to read this post.

By Stephen On January 1, 2009 Under Increase On-line Traffic

Alex Jeffreys’ student Derrick Siu has made a video about how to follow more people on Twitter. Derrick has discovered that when you more people more people will follow you.

Twitter won’t let you follow more than 2000 people unless you have a lot of followers, I don’t know but I suspect you would need at least 2000 followers before you’re allowed to follow any more. I currently have over 800 followers and I’m following around 600 people. This is a good position to be in because I have plenty of room to decide whom to follow.

The other day Mike Filsaime posted a blog in which he wrote: “Follow me and I will follow you.” Some thought this a pretty pointless idea pointing out that Twitter is more than a numbers game. I, somewhat, agree although numbers are important too.

The real secret of Twitter is that it enables you to meet more people with your interests, or in your industry. Before following lots of people as Derrick suggests I would make a list of all the people in your particular field who may be on Twitter, then I would follow them.

Be warned, they aren’t obliged to follow you if you do this, but simply reading their tweets will give you valuable information about your field. Once you’re sure that you’re following the right people then I would selectively add people from the people whom they are following, this is my plan anyway I’ve scheduled some time for this task during the next two weeks.

If you wish you can use a service called ‘Tweet later‘ to automatically follow anyone who is following you. This is fine if you’re still in the low numbers as far as following people. When you reach 2000 however Twitter will start bouncing your automatic requests, and if these persist then you may find your account suspended. Just remember that Twitter is a microcosm of the Internet. Use it as I suggested in this post, and you can’t go far wrong.

Hi Stephen,
I’m on my turbo hopping mission to get round as many of the F500 that I can. It’s taking me for ever to get round everyone just to say hi, so I don’t want you to think I’m being rude bringing a standard message.

I hope I do not offend you as communication and generosity are what is driving this. If I wait for you to come to me, it might never happen. Thanks to all who have already visited Planet Valz, including you Stephen.

Firstly, my wishes to you for a Happy, Healthy and very Prosperous Year 2009.

Secondly, I want to give you a New Year present, but you need to go to http://daybydaymarketing.com/2008/12/choose-your-new-year-present/
and choose what you would like.

I would appreciate being added to your blogroll. You are on mine.

Hi! Steven

I agree with you on your Twitter post, as somone that as had their account suspendid (that being me) by Twitter, all though i was back up and running in withing 24 hours, I will explain to you wot happened in my situation.

When looking for key peopleto follow on Twitter, I typed in keywords such as internet marketing, bloggers etc. and clicked follow on all off them, They do give you a warning that you are folliwing enoug for that time.

I in my wisdom went on to somthing else and came back to Twitter an hour or so later, Then started again i did this for two days up to 1560 with only 100 followers and they suspended my account.

To get my account back i had to type out an explanation of my actions and told them it was done on bad advise from a third party, the next day my account was back and all the followers and following were still there i know have 216 followers and following 1700.

I add people daily on twitter you will be suprised it soon adds up and I Tweet everyday and I never pimp more than once in every 20 or so tweets as Alex Jeffreys Said “Dont Pimp” but be clever about it as if you are replying or giving somone direction to your site, Like yes my blog site is at and put your url in there with some ones name on the end. Hope This Helps
